Jussi to appear in Willy Russell's "Blood brothers" at Tampere Theatre

Posted by translating-uniklubi on January 31, 2012 at 5:25 AM Comments comments (0)

Hello everyone,

Radio 975, local radio station in Tampere, has posted news about Jussi's appearance in Willy Russell's musical Blood Brothers at Tampere Theatre this fall season. Here's a translated summary:

"Tampere Theatre shows five premieres this fall season. The main stage's season will be opened by Willy Russell's musical Veriveljet (Blood Brothers), which will be directed by the theatre's artistic director, Reino Bragge. The show starts on September 5th.
- "Blood Brothers goes straight to the heart. It's definitely my personal musical-favourite", Bragge explains the appeal of the show.

Jussi Selo, known as singer of Uniklubi and winner of Nelonen's Kuorosota - Battle of the Choirs 2011, will make his theatre debut.
- "I always thought it would be nice to do theatre and I was positively surprised when I got a call from the artistic director. It's a must to take this opportunity, and I'll nervously embark on the adventure", Selo tells. Selo will be seen in the role of the narrator, which he shares with Sami Hintsanen.

Blood Brothers debuted in 1983 and it won the Oliver-award as Best New Musical. In London, it's one of the musicals that have played for the longest continuous time."

In other news, Jussi did an interview on Radio Aalto on January 25. You can watch the video here.
The bottom line is that, despite his solo project, Jussi Selo&Nefernefernefer Uniklubi is of course not going to break up. Jussi's Selo record will be released on March 7.

Another Kuorosota translation - 3rd liveshow, 18.11.2011

Posted by translating-uniklubi on November 23, 2011 at 3:00 PM Comments comments (0)

Good evening everyone! ;)

I'm still keeping up with the "anniversary-week daily update special", so I prepared another translation from last week's Kuorosota-show. :)

Before the performances, there is a little video about the respective choir, following them to their rehearsals or similar things. Last week (18.11.2011), Jussi and his Hämeenkyrö Choir went to see the kids in their charity organisation Sydänlapset.
You can watch a video of their time together here, on Nelonen*.

This is the video-description...

"Hämeenkyrö's choir leader Jussi took his choir-members to play dodge ball with the Sydänlapset-kids. The conductor chose Uniklubi's song Tunnit for this week's performance because in Jussi's opinion, the song didn't get enough attention so far. Heikki prepared a wonderful heart-shaped cake for the whole group."

... and you can find the full translation in the TV-section. :)

Have fun,

Alice | Translating Uniklubi

Translating Uniklubi 2nd Anniversary!

Posted by translating-uniklubi on November 22, 2011 at 2:45 AM Comments comments (0)

Dear readers, facebook-followers, friends and fellow international Uniklubi-fans,

Another year has passed:

Translating Uniklubi is turning two today!

- Three, if we count the preliminary fin-archive on Livejournal, but I told you the story a year ago and won’t bore you with it a second time. Maybe you’ll get to hear all of it again when the page turns 5. ;)

Now, instead of an update [which will follow later] here's another lengthy anniversary speech ;)

Time's running a bit too fast if you ask me, and 2010/11 hasn't exactly seen as many translations as I would have wanted it to. As an excuse: I had to move three times - to Helsinki in September ’10, away from Helsinki and back in with my parents in May this year, and then again back to Cologne this autumn, all of which didn't leave me very much time to think about translations. -- That, and the fact that sometimes I’m lazy. ;)

Either way, I'm still looking back on a bunch of Uniklubi-related highlights, including my 20th show and, generally, concerts during the Kultakalat-tour.
Looking at the essential part, the translations, I really enjoyed doing a few RE«WIND Mondays, featuring e.g. the studio diaries for Kehä and Luotisade as well as old interviews, forum entries, etc. I really hope to return to RE«WIND Mondays again soon - I sure have enough material to do so. Well, and I did made a start yesterday.

Another highlight, even though late in the year, was definitely Jussi's appearance on Neljän Tähden Illallinen-Four Star Dinner this fall, as well as following Jussi and his Hämeenkyrö-choir during their Kuorosota-War of the Choirs experience. - This Friday will be the Semi-final show, I’m keeping my fingers crossed for them to make it to the finale!!

Joining facebook at the beginning of this year took the whole “Translating Uniklubi-experience” to a whole new level - I really have to say that I love "meeting" you guys on facebook! It's always great to find your replies, likes, or just use the possibility to have a little chat, everybody is so accommodating and I really appreciate that :) – Thank you!

Talking about facebook, a huge thanks goes to Alisa for really, really pushing the page back in February by suggesting a whole lot of people who were kind enough to add me. - Thank you to each and every one who's on my facebook list!
Another big thanks goes to Matti from Backstage Rockshop for forwarding merch-links and UK.net -updates to me whenever there's anything new. I know, it's just forwarding links, but it’s great to see the page is remembered – Kiitos!
Kati deserves thanks for providing me with videos lately, which I truly appreciate. - Thank you!
Again, thank you to all of you wonderful people commenting and liking my statuses and links on fb, as well as for the chats we’re currently having about Kuorosota ;)

A few more special mentions: Tine, Siw and Jacquie because you're all amazing and I hope we'll meet some time during the next tour, the girls managing TAP Europe on facebook just because I feel we're in the same boat ;), Marika, as always, for setting me up with the translations, Judith&Melanie for an amazing 2010 fall and winter and beautiful memories of Kultakalat, my girlfriend for bearing with my whining …

-- and, always and forever - thank you, UNIKLUBI...
Teemu, Jussi, Janne, Pasi, Antti, Tuomas
- I wouldn't know where to start so it's just gonna be a simple "thanks for everything" again: Kiitos kaikesta, olette muuttaneet elämäni paremmaksi!!!

Lots of thanks,

Alice | Translating Uniklubi

RE«WIND: 2005/06 Teemu&Jussi - Lista!

Posted by translating-uniklubi on November 21, 2011 at 2:05 PM Comments comments (0)

Hello everyone,

as announced on facebook, this week is a week of celebration for Translating Uniklubi - the page is turning two tomorrow! :)
Funnily, this update also marks my 100th posting on here [which isn't nearly enough] ;)

In order to start off this week decently I decided to bring back my RE«WIND -special with an interview that marks one of my first "encounters" with Uniklubi - Jussi and Teemu's appearence in YLE's show "Lista" back in 2006 [or late 2005]. - A short interview with random questions about make up and stuffed animals which, however, never fails to make me laugh :D

First of all, you can watch the video here:

You need Adobe Flash Player to view this content.

... and here's a little taste:

Host: [...] It feels like these days all the schlager- and tango-singers are really the better rock stars in their civilian lives than actual rock stars themselves, have you noticed that?

Jussi: That's definitely true. And whenever we do something stupid we instantly get the shit.
Teemu:
When one of them is doing something stupid while being drunk then it's just cool, however when we break one chair in a hotel we don't get allowed to stay overnight in any place in the whole country!

- For the whole translation, you can click here, or go look for the translation in the TV-section.

Have fun and stay tuned - as I said, it's a week of celebration so it wants to be honoured ;)

Dinner is served - Jussi's turn

Posted by translating-uniklubi on November 7, 2011 at 3:55 PM Comments comments (0)

Hello again,

I've talked about it the whole day on facebook and this time I'm not breaking my promise, so here we go!
I finished translating the second episode of Neljän Tähden Illallinen - Four Star Dinner, and this time it's Jussi's turn to cook! - And here it is! You can find the [text heavy!!] translation in the TV-section as always.

Here's a little taste - but careful with the spices!

Jussi: Here it reads "In some households too spicy", but...
Pentti tries the extra spice sauce but at first, nothing happens at all, he even says it isn't much stronger than the one he tasted at first. Johanna tries it, too. After a moment -
Pentti:
Oho, it was more in the aftertaste... ooh, now it's spicy!
Jussi starts laughing, obviously familiar with the sensation. Pentti repeats over and over again how the taste really kicks in right now.
Pentti:
It doesn't come right away like a punch; it only comes after a moment!
Johanna: How long does it take? Like, in minutes?
Pentti: It comes slowly, and then it's there.
Jussi: If you eat some salad...
Pentti: It's not too much!
Jussi: ...the bread is still here!
Pentti: No, no, I really want to taste this.

Curious for more? Head on to the translation!

Have fun and enjoy your meal!

Translation for Neljän Tähden Illallinen 1/4 & Kuorosota News

Posted by translating-uniklubi on November 6, 2011 at 11:25 AM Comments comments (0)

Welcome back everyone!

I finally managed to upload to translation for the first part of Neljän Tähden Illallinen - Four Star Dinner, the cooking show in which Jussi participated in September.
This first translation is for the first episode in which schlager-singer Johanna was a host. I made a summary of the greater part of the show, however, whenever there was actual dialogue, I made a proper translation - especially when it was Jussi's turn to speak ;) Caution: it's text-heavy. Each episode is 20 minutes, so there's a lot to say!

You can read the summary/translation HERE, in the TV-section of the website.

Have fun!

In further news, Jussi's choir in Kuorosota - War of the Choirs made the first two live-shows.
The first song they performed was Tästa asti aikaa [Time Until Now] which is originally by Kolmas Nainen.
In this weeks' Halloween-themed show, they performed Alice Cooper's Poison. The links will lead you to the respective youtube-video.

Kuorosota is aired on Nelonen each Friday, 8 p.m. Finnish time, reruns follow Sundays, 5 p.m. Finnish time.
This website enables you to watch a livestream even if you're not in Finland.
You might also want to have a closer look at facebook.com/translating.uniklubi for more ;)

In that sense, I hope you enjoyed Johanna's dinner as much as Jussi did - and GO HÄMEENKYRÖ!! ;)

Translating Uniklubi comeback - news round-up

Posted by translating-uniklubi on October 24, 2011 at 1:40 PM Comments comments (0)

Hello everybody,

after more than a month of being MIA I've finally returned to the living. [I've recently found out that "MIA" means "missing in action", so I sort of have to use it everywhere right now ;)] - As a little excuse, life has kept me busy... that is: life, moving, and some sort of a regular everyday madness. Either way, I hope I'm finally back - and tons of things seem to have happened during my absence!

So before we get to any translational news, here's a general round-up for what's happening in space, ancient Egypt and the culinary and musical warfare in Tampere and Hämeenkyrö. Wait, what?

Let's start with culinary and musical "warfare" in Tampere and Hämeenkyrö!

# Jussi's appearances on the cooking show "Neljän Tähden Illallinen" ["Four star dinner"] where aired in September. He competed against iskelmä-singer Johanna Debreczeni, opera-singer Pentti Hietanen and hair stylist Gekko Paavilainen, and all dinners have taken place in Tampere. If you take a look at facebook, you might find a few links to see how he did. :)

# The translation for the first part of Neljän Tähden Illallinen will be up tomorrow. I know I promised it'd be up today, but you get a news round-up instead ;)

# Jussi and his Choir from Hämeenkyrö have found their war strategy for this year's Kourosota - War of the Choirs. You can watch the video here. For all news about his choir and its progress on the show, "like" the page Kuorosota 2011 - Hämeenkyrö - Jussin Kuoro on fb.

Now moving on to 'Space'...

# Jupiter (Antti and Teemu's sideproject) are not only busy promoting the video for their first single Ihmishirviö [Human monster] on their facebook page, they'll also get their say on the Finnish radio/tv channel The Voice this Wednesday, 26.10. on 19:00 Finnish Time. The Voice's webradio should be available for everybody via www.voice.fi/nettiradio.

# you can listen to Jupiter's interview on yleX from last week (20.10.) on here. In case I manage to translate the interview, I'll inform you on here, but the translation will be on my facebook page.

# you can even buy Jupiter-shirts on Backstage Rockshop.

# stara.fi is where you can download their single for free. Click "Lataa Jupiterin single Ihmishirviö tästä" using "Save file as".

# basically, don't forget to check their facebook https://www.facebook.com/pages/Jupiter/171096596282377" target="_blank">for more.:)

...Ancient Egypt...

# Nefernefernefer, the "&" part in Jussi's solo project, is a character from the book "Sikuhe the Egyptian" by Mika Waltari - and it's also what Jussi Selo & Nefernefernefer's first single is called. You can listen to a sneek peak of it on here.

# Jussi's solo-project gets its recognition in different articles on The Voice as well as on stara.fi. - As with Jupiter, possible translations will be posted to facebook. No promises.

# According to https://www.facebook.com/notes/jussi-selo-nefernefernefer/egyptin-matka-alkaa-nytour-trip-to-egypt-starts-now/172314599522299" target="_blank">this note on facebook, Jussi & his new bandmates are currently on the way to Egypt - conveniently, the entry is both Finnish and English :)

# all news, articles and further tidbits can be found on Nefernefernefer's facebook as well as on www.nefernefernefer.fi

... and I guess that's it for now.
Loads of thanks for sticking around during my absence, and for reading the longest update ever made on here ;)
Oh, yeah, and I tried a new layout. Webs doesn't want me to have a proper header so I'm sorry for the basic look, but at least the site looks clear ;)

Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Cheers,

Alice | Translating Uniklubi
